Want a Christmas Getaway? Think of the Unusual.

Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year for travel. Many families have taken to doing Christmas on a cruise or at Disney World, and it serves as a wonderful time together making memories and often is better than exchanging gifts of items you may or may not need.

Travel at a holiday is catching on fast for so many, it’s now peak season for everywhere in the world. So, how do people afford it?

One answer is, they book WAY in advance. Hotels and cruise lines often are booked more than a year in advance for Christmas. Airlines will only book 11 months in advance, but people that have traveled at Christmas before, know when to lock in their airfare for the following Christmas time.

Second option is, think of somewhere other than the typical destinations. SOMETIMES you can get a good deal on a cruise, but usually not last minute. But a trip to Colorado to stay in a cabin is usually available. Or a trip to Phoenix and stay in a luxury hotel for a decent rate-mainly because those aren’t your typical family destinations over the holidays.

But, be aware that most hotels and even the airlines often increase their rates JUST because its the holiday time. So that tends to increase the prices. If your family can travel right before Christmas or right after, often there’s a HUGE difference in pricing.

Just some food for thought to get your family thinking outside the (Christmas) box.
